An attack on Tehran would be madness. So don’t rule it out

If Israel really attacks Iran this year, it – and the Americans – will be more dotty than their enemies think. True, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is a crackpot, but then so is Avigdor Lieberman, who is apparently the Israeli Foreign Minister. Maybe the two want to do each other a favour. But why on earth would the Israelis want to bomb Iran and thus bring down on their heads the fury of both the Lebanese Hezbollah and Hamas at the very same moment? Along with Syria, no doubt. Not to mention sucking the West – Europe and the US – into the same shooting match.

Maybe it’s because I’ve been in the Middle East for 36 years, but I sniff some old herrings in the air. Leon Panetta, the US Defence Secretary no less, warns us that Israel may strike. So does CNN – an older herring it would be difficult to find – and even old David Ignatius, who hasn’t been a Middle East correspondent for a decade or two, is telling us the same, taken in, as usual, by his Israeli "sources".

I expected this sort of bumph when I perused last week’s The New York Times Magazine – not an advertisement, this, for I would not want The Independent readers to burn their energy on such tosh – and read a warning from an Israeli "analyst" (I am still trying to discover what an "analyst" is), Ronen Bergman of Israel’s Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper.

And here is his "kicker" (as we call it in the trade), which is as near as you can get to playing the propaganda ragtime. "After speaking with many [sic] senior Israeli leaders and chiefs [sic yet again] of the military and intelligence, I have come to believe that Israel will indeed strike Iran in 2012. Perhaps in the small and ever diminishing window that is left, the US will choose to intervene after all, but from the Israelis’ perspective, there is not much hope for that. Instead, there is that peculiar Israeli mixture of fear… and tenacity, the fierce conviction, right or wrong, that only the Israelis can ultimately defend themselves."

US Navy rescues Iranian hostages from pirates

U.S. sailors from a carrier strike group whose recent presence in the Persian Gulf drew the ire of Iranian military officials have rescued 13 of the Middle Eastern country’s sailors from a hijacked fishing boat, a military spokesman said Friday.
The destroyer USS Kidd came to the aid of the ship Thursday in the North Arabian sea, near the crucial Strait of Hormuz, according to the Navy.

The rescue prompted the captain of the freed ship to offer his "sincere gratitude," according to Josh Schminky, a Navy Criminal Investigative Service agent aboard the Kidd.

"He was afraid that without our help, they could have been there for months," Schminky said.
The rescue Thursday came two days after Iran said the United States should not send any more warships into the Persian Gulf.

Kind of a turn of events no? Wonder how Iran will respond to this.

Romney protested FOR the Vietnam draft as a 19 year old

I just feel like ranting a little bit.

2d9nqsi I just feel like ranting a little bit.

Alright brahs, what i’m about to rant about is purely my opinion.

As you see, i’m a 19 year old lad, but I have really grown an interest in politics in the past few months. I can vote this year, so I really just want to learn about as much as i can, so that I can make an educated decision. But anyways what i’m about to talk about isn’t really about that at all.

I figured i’d say what being a citizen of this great country means to me and what I think my duty as a citizen is.

I feel so grateful to have been born in such a strong, capable, and accomplished country. I am everything I am because this country gave me and my family protection, freedom, and many other things, which have allowed me to live comfortably. To be honest, I would never ever leave or abandon this country EVER. This will always be my country and I will forever be proud and support the United States through thick and thin.

But I’ve been seeing and hearing some disturbing things among the citizens of this country. Especially here on the Misc where a fellow soldier said he was going to leave the country. I just don’t understand this.

I consider myself a Ron Paul supporter but I feel as though, his rising popularity has somewhat caused some citizens to lose pride in this country.

Something that I see constantly is something like this; "The citizens of (example country) don’t want us there!". Yes that statement is true but it’s not our jobs as citizens of this country to look out for citizens of other countries. Yes it’s nice to aid countries during disasters and stuff but besides that, it’s up to the government of THEIR country to look out for them. If the citizens don’t want us there then wouldn’t it be there governments job to appease them and make us leave? But yet they don’t.

At the end of the day, it is the home countries governments decision to have a U.S. presence there and if they allow it then that’s just how it is. It’s not our military/governments job to say "Oh but it looks like your citizens don’t want us here. Looks like we’ll pack up and go home". Shouldn’t it be the other way around?

It really feels like people here in the U.S. support other countries and citizens before their own. Sometimes I wonder if people actually think about whether or not people actually want us there instead of just following Ron Paul. Some countries actually really want us there.

I bet the same people here that cry over killings in the middle east, casually walk by starving homeless people here in the states. That may not be true but lets be real, it happens everyday.

I just think that Red blooded Americans are a dying breed these days. I wasn’t alive during Vietnam but back then our citizens were quick to turn their backs on their own people and support people across the world who they didn’t even know. And just like today, you hear people talking badly about soldiers when all they are doing is serving this great country. If you haven’t been over there who are you to treat them that way? You haven’t walked in their boots.

I guess what i’m saying is that people are really unpatriotic these days. I may be called a sheep and negged for saying this, but I’ll never stop the support of this country. No matter what (unless we conducted some hitler-type mass suicide and started killing our own people). Just like if my brother murdered somebody, i would never turn my back on him. I’d criticize, cuss him out, make him feel worthless and regretful but at the end of the day i’ll try to get down to the bottom of things and figure out why he did what he did, but i’ll never throw him to the dogs. It’s my duty to support him. I feel the same about my country, so what?

America comes first. Bottom line. I can’t believe people are taking the side of backwards countries like Iran. Makes me sick.

This is the end of my rant. Feel free to do what you want, but I thought i’d put my feelings out there. Go ahead and do the same in this thread if you would like.

Why was "IneguthenLOL" giving so much rep power

Jan 3, 2012   //   by supplementreviewer   //   Blog  //  No Comments
This guy is unstable with his reps. His username is obvious enough. Letting him gather 60k reps is the same as letting Iran develop a nuclear bomb. it just creates instability in the misc region.
